19th October 2014The TriStar R&G Triple Challenge came to an exciting conclusion this weekend at Brands Hatch as 2014 Champion Freddy Pett enjoyed victory in the opening race while Scott Pitchers secured the final ever victory in this one make class. After dominating the latter part of the season, Sam Thompson wrapped up the Cup title with a stunning ride to return to the main podium.

Fresh from his victory at Silverstone, Young Gun winner Tom Carne continued to set the pace during opening free practice and qualifying, securing pole position for the opening race by 0.488s ahead of 2014 Champion Freddy Pett. Rounding out the front row was Cup competitor Sam Thompson.

The opening race got underway in dry, but overcast conditions and capitalizing on his pole position, Carne grabbed the holeshot ahead of Thompson and Pett. As Carne extended his lead, Pett moved into second on lap two and began closing down the gap. Setting four consecutive fastest laps, Pett made his move into the lead on lap seven but as Carne attacked back, the red flags were deployed and the result declared. Joining the pair on the podium was Scott Pitchers while Thompson secured the Cup Championship with his eleventh victory of the year ahead of podium debutant Matt Coles and Terry Lewis.

Speaking after the race, Freddy Pett said “It was a good race, I really enjoyed it to be honest. I concentrated on catching Tom and we made a few passes but luckily for me I was in front before the red flag came out! For some reason I was convinced I was about to run out of fuel with the extra warm up lap so I was glad to see the race end.”

By virtue of setting the fastest lap in the first race, Pett started from pole position with Carne and Phil Atkinson rounding out the front row. Once again Carne grabbed the holeshot but it was Thompson who moved into the lead at Graham Hill bend. Scott Pitchers went to the front on the second lap where he would remain until the chequered flag, his fourth victory of the season. Completing the podium was both 2014 Champions with Pett in second and Thompson making his return to the main podium in third.

Race victor Scott Pitchers said, “Although there was a dry line out there, if you moved off that it was very slippery and I had quite a few movements from the bike on the brakes – it was like riding on marbles! It’s brilliant to get the win here today, the final ever TTC race, and it was even better to do it in front of such a big crowd!”

2014 TriStar R&G Triple Challenge Cup Champion Sam Thompson said, “It’s been an incredible year and I want to say a massive thanks to Tony Scott and everyone involved in the series. My aim for the latter part of the season has been to mix it up with the faster guys so to get another podium in the main class was brilliant and has really helped my riding. I now feel ready to make the next step so I’m excited to see what the future brings!”

T3 Racing owner and series organiser Tony Scott said, “What a great pair of races to finish what has been another incredible season of racing and although I wasn’t there in person, I’ve been following closely online! Both Freddy and Sam are deserved champions, but they’ve had some tough competition from one of the strongest fields we’ve ever had.

Over the eight seasons that we have been running, we’ve seen some fantastic riders come through and establish themselves as stars of the future. I would like to say a personal thank you to every one of the competitors who have entered for making it one of the best one make series to race in Britain.”
